Feed rollers / drive rollers

Feed rollers or drive rollers are used to feed the wire mechanically along the length of the welding gun. So when you pull the trigger on the mig welding gun and feed rollers become energized and start rolling forward. These are what control your welding wire feed speed. If they spin faster the wire will feed faster if they spin slower wire will feed slower. There will be an adjustment knob on the front of the welding machines for this control.

Feed rollers are designed to be used for certain types of welding wire. Your normal mild steel solid wire needs to be used with a V groove roller. Aluminium wire needs to be used with U-shaped rollers. This is because the U-shaped roller offers more surface area grip and traction to help feed the softer wire. Flux cored welding wires also should use a U-shaped feed roller. But most people seem to use a knurled feed roller for your gasless and flux cored wires. If you use a knurled wire feed roller on flux cored wire it will slowly over time bit by bit eat away at the surface of the welding wire, and these small pieces will eventually go down into the liner. This will cause added friction and could lead to welding wire feed problems.

                                 What do i know about health and safety?
Health and safety are systems designed to keep you and others around you safe in the work place. It can be everything from giving people the knowledge to asses danger and hazards in work areas to being able to locate and use  first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and exits also making sure people wear appropriate safety equipment like.........

• ear protection
• overalls (cotton) and/or flame resistant
• eye protection
• face masks
• gloves

and making sure people understand the reasons for needing such protection because the most safety conscious person is only as safe as the others around him/her

fire extinguishers are a very important part of safety equipment they come in many types and sizes used for different reasons.

 Here is a list of a few common fire extinguishers and there pros and cons

• CARBON DIOXIDE.....one of the most common and good for for general purpose fires but limited effectiveness in outdoor conditions.
• FOAM....very good on fuel fires but dangerous if used on energized electrical systems or flammable gases

                   Engineering Workshop

There are many hazards in an engineering workshop mainly coming from sharp/fast moving parts flammable liquids(and other people)  heavy objects. In areas like these its especially important to observe first aid fire extinguishers eye wash points and emergency exits when entering. There are a few things you can do to help keep you safe in the workshop like making sure your wearing the rite safety  gear and i recommend doing easy things like every 30 min or so stop what your doing clean up your work area and put away unnecessary tools. small steps like these are good for reducing slips and surprisingly stress which causes many workshop accidents.
